You know what they say, all is fair in love in photography (no one says that I think).I am usually going on and on about myself in posts, but today consider the visuals as a part of an artist showcase as I narrate (in my Morgan Freeman voice) the great person behind each photograph of this post and every one of my posts.I will also hit on our rocky work relationship and how it always seems to come together. If you haven’t noticed I kinda post, well a lot. There is a lot of work that goes into staging each look (well kinda sorta) so for those who have been asking , here ya go. My photographer is my husband, bae, bookie, baby zaaaddddy, lover and best friend. He has been so a bit before the beginning of the blog in July (almost 2 years ago).Believe it or not, this all started with a cell phone.I begged him to take pictures for me to post on IG , you know because --fashion .I will never forget the day I yelled at him to put some respeck on my shit and not just be flicking. We were in the backyard and I was pissed because he seemed not to be really focusing on me and my looks. I let him have it (in a totally ‘good wife who has had it up to here witcho ass’ kinda way, and I’m glad I did. He immediately stated that my phone was trash and insisted on getting a real camera, as if IIIIIIII was not taking this seriously. Since he would be buying the camera, I let him feel it was all his idea. He picked out a camera and was telling me all the features (as if I cared) and I just nodded in agreement/’I don’t care whatever just get it already”. The rest is pretty much history as they would say (who says that though?).Hubs began not only taking the time to create great shots, but also see how much the blog meant to me. Even though he had a full time job, he attended a weekend 6 week photography course. Week after week he would apply new skills and even during the week for hours on end he would study techniques until he perfected them. That was over a year ago and he still studies new techniques weekly, sometimes even on the job.How does he study you ask? Well Youtube is anybody and everybody friend/mentor.I would also like to add that he is pretty much a genius and whatever he wants to do he justs picks it up from photography, jewelry making, playing guitar (acoustic and electric) just to name a few *swoons. I’m not rich , in the fiscal sense, so we don’t have some super big amazing camera. We have the Sony A6000 which is a great camera, but in the photog world its still a ‘point and shoot’ (photog slang for basic ass camera, pretty much). One motto I have for the blog and is my life is ‘it’s not what you have, but how you use it”.You don’t have to have the most expensive of anything to get noticed. This is a tip for all bloggers and even up and coming creatives. Do what you can afford guys. Perfecting your craft can happen on the modest of budgets. True skill can never be replaced with expensive tools. Speaking of not being rich, so Pixie Market had this top about 3 months ago for about $60.Right when I went to order it, my size was gone! *kneels to floor and shakes fists at the sky dramatically.I really did that by the way.As luck would have it , I was on a fellow blogger’s post one day, thanks Derria, and I clicked the link to shop her blouse and at the bottom of the page they had suggested items and—booyah!! Not only did I find my blouse, but it was only $13!! Surpisingly enough it was on Aliexpress.com.The home of ‘Order today and wait 1,000 Chinese to receive’.I debated and then remember it was $13.I could wait a few years to receive it, I guess.Suprise , surprise it actually took all of 2.5 weeks to receive.I clearly have all the luck on my side. My look is composed all of pieces I have worn already on the blog. Once again, I am not rich so everything gets multiple repeats in my closet, ok?! My straw boater is old from H &M and my scarf and my cigar box bag are thrifted. The amazing tassel earrings I have on are from www.NettysGlitz.com .They are currently sold out but check out the rest of their stock. All items have free shipping! So exactly how does this work everyweek? Well I bullshit around when I get home between trying on clothes, practice mirror posing like I’m auditioning for Tyra, screenshotting dank memes online and looking at fashion inspo on IG.I do a roughdraft of my looks and I contemplate locations that would flatter each look. I pretty much say to myself “if this was an editorial for a high fashion magazine how would it go?”. When the weekend hits I wake up early, beat my face, do my weave and throw all my clothes in the car. Because I have a 6 year old unless she is riding around getting it with grandma she usually comes along on shoots. Saturday is shoot day and family time so we are always working fast. Practicing all week and giving hubs ideas of what I am going for allows me to shoot three looks in about an 45 mins to an hour and a half (depending on if I have to change locations). When I mean we work quick, it is no joke.I forgot to mention he works second shift so the only time I see hubs is Saturday and Sunday. Time is always of the essence. Working together has really brought our relationship much, much closer. Sometimes in marriage, jobs and passions drive distance between partners. My biggest fear when I started getting blogging was that my family would suffer and I would abandon them, but it has been further from the truth. Tim believed in me and my passion enough to not only help me but invest in me. Not only did he want to help, but he wanted me to be the best at what I do which is why he tells me he studies so much. He said he wanted my pics to be the best, so every week we set out to outdo the week before. Shooting takes place on Saturday and Sunday he edits every photo. I am literally in awe of him every week. There is no better feeling for me they living out my passion with my hubby/best friend. The fact that invested in me and uncovered a hidden talent of his own says so much about his character. This year will be 8 years of marriage and guys, I can say it really gets better and better. To answer your question, no I am not lucky. We are just two people who love each other and live each day at a time. Understanding has been a key for each other and during the many trials life has brought to us, all we ever had was each other. Anything you invest in and pour love into can be successful. My blog and marriage are testaments to that. Oh yea, I yell a lot too.I'm not mean, just passionate about what I say lol. It's the Jamaican in me. My amazing vintage blogger babe Krystle has the same top and gave a nice tropical spin on it! I always love how she keeps true to her style and incorporates both current pieces with a retro and whimsical flair.Head to her blog to get deets on her look www.krystledesantos.com. Here is a pic of babe just flexing for the gram and rocking some of his handmade jewelry.Born and raised a country boy, Tim has a love for all things natural. His hand made pieces all contain gemstones and fair-trade wood from various parts around the world.Take a peek and shop them here www.jdtellis.com and check him out on IG @_jdte .
Babe if you are reading this, I am not cooking tonight.Love u.
