Valentine's Day approacheth, I hope everyone has been cuffed appropriately and on their best behavior (I sure haven't, but I'm married it doesn't matter). This week on the blog I am giving 3 looks any babe can pull off for date night.
It's not Thursday, but I am gonna throw it back like it's 99 and Juvenille and Cash Money is on the track. Well, I am actually throwing it back further than that. My mom is obsessed with Burgundy and she is such a fierce uppity southern lady, so this look is all inspired by her. I am also sharing a bit about myself. I know it sounds weird but I am interviewing myself today. I am learning how important it is to share.
Crisp mornings, sweltering afternoons, and cold nights; that is Fall in North Carolina for ya! You literally have to dress for 3 seasons all in one. Being a NC native I am ready to tackle fall , and in the most Caribbean Cowgirl-est way lol.
I'm keeping it under wraps all week with Shop Feline.I am wearing one of their solid color head wraps tied in a bow for the ultimate feminine Old Hollywood glam.Shop them here to see all of their fab pieces. You know how much I love Burgundy , so get used to seeing a lot of it this season.
Yellow, it's me *insert roaring laughter. Fall is the most wonderful time of the year for one reason :jackets. I love them! Don't ask me how many I have (about 50 give or take ) . I am a woman obsessed; a trait I got honest from my mom. Thanks Mable lol
Champagne wishes and caviar dreams......the story of my life *stares out window. I don't really mind wishing though, it keeps me optimistic. Pink , Blush, Rose and all shades in between the pink spectrum are slowly making their way back into my wardrobe , as I am sure you can tell. For Fall, I find pairing with Burgundy is one the feminine combos you can have. Add a splash of gold and you have a winner.
oKAYYYYY ladies now let's get in formation! The newest black girl anthem heard 'round the world thanks to the one and only Beyoncé. Not only does she sing about how proud she is of her heritage , but her visuals were like BOOM, IN YA FACE SOUTHERN GRACE!! Since the drop of Formation, the internet has had its share of Yonce inspired everything.I can say she definitely inspired today's post, but the real credit I owe to the two original style inflencers in my life---my mom and my sister.
My mom has always been the epitome of snazzy classic dressing for me. Growing up in North Carolina, I lived in a small town called Lumberton. There is no claim to fame , well except for the Native Americans known as the Lumbee Indians. If you go to Wal-Mart, which you don't have much of a choice, be prepared to see hair in big brightly colored rollers and two-toned painted cars with rims and street names on the back windshield. lol. It's a pretty causal town, but my mom always dressed to impressed. She believed in shape ware, slips, hosiery, gloves, shoe repair, 'dry clean only', straw hats, scarves pinned to a blazer with a brooch; a true believer in fashion. She always had a love of A-line skirts, layers, and her true love--Burgundy. No one,I mean no one wears it like her--except me .lol.Sometimes on Friday nights, after the TGIF lineup (#throwback) , she would just try on clothes for hours. This has now become my weekly ritual.Cranking up the music and letting my creativity flow organically through a montage of pulling on and off clothes until I find my happy place is my true happy place. My mom and dad raised 5 kids on a budget, but we ALWAYS looked good.I had no problem as a kid, waking up early Saturday morning and discovering great deals and even some vintage pieces on someone's lawn. In addition to turning secondhand looks into vintage visions, she was also a queen of DIY before it was even a thing. She would get that glue gun or needle and thread and add extra 'zazz to piece. So when they say 'girl where you get dat 'zazz from?'* in my Juvenille Cash Money voice , I proudly say I get it from my mama!!
My sister--my 1st best enemy/best friend/Golden Girl/partner-in-crime my everything!! Anyone that know me knows much I loooooooove my sister. She is ten years older than me , so growing up I was like Rudy Huxtable and she was Denise. Everything she did and wore oozed cool. From the long black glue on nails on the 90's to them red bad ass Durango boots you let me wear in the 7th grade, and that famous vintage Ralph Lauren blazer with suede elbow patches. You got me my first cell phone, 2-way pager, and 1st designer bag (a super cool DKNY backpack)--she made sure I was cool. Toot, (my sis' nickname) you will never know how much you mean to me!! *insert tears
