Happy Friday loves! I hope you are all staying safe out there in this aftermath of last week's snow. Here in the Carolina's some of us were blessed with a couple of flakes and that's it! Hopefully the snow will melt soon and you will be ready to celebrate by going out on the town. This post is to help show you how to rock sequins like you are ready for fashion week or the hottest concert. So Rihanna has finally blessed us with her highly anticipated album ANTI.I am not a subscriber to Tidal so I just downloaded her new single 'Work' and have been working it every since. As a fellow island gyal, I find her Caribbean beats are always my faves. I'm celebrating by shining bright like a diamond in an array sequin, statement jewelry, metallic, and print. I have been sitting on this blazer for about 4 years now (Forever 21 $12) and layered it over a gray v-neck (Forver21,$3.80).I am not a fan of leggings typically but these coated leggings from Forever 21 ($19.99) really resembled leather pants and gave me a rock star vibe so I was like 'yeaaaa!".My leopard print lace up flats from Zara online -$39.99 seem to add the perfect amount of spice without hurting my feet all night in typical heels. To offset the blue, I went with gold metallic accessories. My gold statement necklace is from www.mirinacollections.com if you use my code 'cowgirl20' you will get 20% off. This is actually perfect as they are having a huge sale right now and they also have free shipping so check them out now! As if my blazer didn't stand out enough, I added a statement pin (Forever 21, $3.80) to the lapel to compliment my necklace. My clutch is from Zara and was on sale for $12.99 last year. My Dior inspired sunnies were a steal for about $3 on aliexpress.com.For the cheap diva like myself, I always get my designer inspired sunnies from there. I hope you like this post and there is more to come today so stay tuned!! I am toning it down for today's inspired look. While many lambast Kim Kardashian for various reasons the girl has got style! Whether store bought or of her own design, her minimalist ensembles have launched many a online boutique. Let's face it, she was the 2015 reigning queen of the midi length skirt. So many have tried to emulate her style even to the point of body modification (no shade), but this post is for my petite no so curvy girls who still want to slay in minimal fashion. Kim is my height 5'2", but our bodies are so different. Pretty much the only thing we have in common are our height. Body-wise I would say I lean towards the more narrow hip and small bust area. My waist is not super tiny , so if I am not careful, my looks can come making be look like a rectangle. That is why I love this knit skirt from Shein.com. For $9 is got this (it comes one-size) skirt in multiple colors. This fabric stretches in all the right places giving the appearance of a smaller waist and curvier tush! I liked this look, but this is not my norm. For me, this is a lazy day look. They say minimal is the new maximal what say ye? Hello loves!! I swear I love a good last minute photoshoot.I was feeling so uninspired Sunday night(the day I usually shoot) and I was not even going to post.So I grabbed a fashion magazine, and all kinds on inspiration ensued. This fun look is my take on the equestrian look. Cute riding caps, structured blazers and the classic riding boot are all fabulous on their own, but combined with the power of the equine , you have a classic signature look that can take you from the stables to the streets. If you frequent my blog , then you know how I like to add my own spin on things and this look is no different. Instead of the traditional palette of black or navy blue and khaki, I went with a tartan plaid and hunter green. My blazer is my latest thrift find at mere $3.The pants are corduroy by Jessica Simpson and were a steal for only $1 at Plato' Closet. They usually have a super sale on clearance twice a year where it's all $1.I racked up big time. To find out when a Plato's in your area is having their sale , be sure to follow your local store on instagram. They usually announce it there. I added a white button down , but of course I added some flair. This Karen Millen short sleeved top is structured and provides all kinds of frill and fancy (which you can't see unfortunately because it was freeeeeezing when I shot , and I had no plans of opening my coat..NO PLANS!) .When I first saw this top at the thrift store I thought it was kinda ugly. After closer inspection I looked at fabric quality and attention to detail. I never heard of the name before so I googled it. Karen Millen is a high-end UK based brand of classic wares. After learning that and the face the top was $3, I was sold. It pays to research names you find unfamiliar in thrifting. My cap is no ordinary riding cap, of course, it definitely all ears. My 'devil ear' (or so its called) cap was purchased from aliexpress.com .At $5 a pop , I made sure to get every color. This hat is super cute and garners much attention! I hope you all are not getting tires of seeing my faux fur stoles, because it's cold and I need them! I added my grey one for warmth and I loved the color contrast as well. I didn't realize it was that cold outside otherwise I would have grabbed my new thrifted Express overcoat that I got for 4 bucks. My oh-so-fancy faux suede flat boots are a few years old from Forever 21 ($30).I almost forgot I had them; I know that is terrible. My bag is also thrifted. This lil cutie was in need of some serious TLC when I found it for $3.I took this structured granny bag from ashy to classy. I used my leather conditioner that I use for my car and cleaned her right on up. My pom poms were a nice fun touch and for about a buck a piece (aliexpress, com) I could not say no. A red lip was only necessary for this look , but my Ruby Woo alone could not do the job. I used black liner in the corner of my lips and then applied Mac Ruby Woo over my full lips. To help, I used a small eye shadow brush to smooth the outer edges of my lipstick to create this 2-toned look. I hope you guys enjoy this post.I was shooting in 35 degree weather for the love of fashion. If that isn't dedication I don't know what it is.lol This week has flown by! I am still riding high from last weekend.I have been having the best week ever.My sister in law calls me to tell me that I was in the newspaper, which I knew nothing about. The picture was from the benefit fashion show, so I'm pretty much a celebrity(in my own mind) jk.On top of that, I will be styling two new clients tomorrow.I hope to blog more about it if I get some good pics this weekend. I originally had a lot more written because I am wordy, but my computer (hater...ugh) deleted it. So I in an effort not to throw it in the woods, I will just type less this time. My striped look today is inspired by 2 fab bloggers and the fab striped dresses they recently posted. Kokabuta (below in the black and white stripes) and Lydia (in the red and black striped dress below) were totally slaying in stripes and made me want to join the fun. My dress was a steal at $9.99 from Zara.com .My original though was to go casual chic with a classic touch so I added my H&M blazer ($20-a suggested purchase by my friend Lynn. Thanks Lynn dawg!lol) and my go -to burgundy thrifted flats ($3).My vintage embroidered bag ($4) added a nice granny-esque touch and the colors really complimented the dress. After I had my full of casual chicness, I wanted to 'sporty spice' it up. If you don't get my reference...then...just Google Spice World--you are welcome! Tossing my coat and flats aside, I grabbed my yellow sneakers (Topshop.com $20) and flexed a lil bit. Just faux fun (get it...ha!), I slung my Forever 21 faux fur stole ($17.80) over my shoulder for a glam look. For more on the fab bloggers babes check them out on their respective IG pages @artbecomesyou and @Kokabuta. On the web check out Kokabuta's youtube page and subscribe, it's pretty awesome. Lydia's blog is www.artbecomeyou.com and she is nothing short of a style slayer. Well, I had a busy weekend! In addition to shooting, I was honored to walk in a benefit fashion show for Toni Melvin Whitaker who has been in the fashion industry for decades, and is founder of TMW Modeling. The show was in honor and rememberance of her dear friend ,Debra Joyner Green, who was a former director of the community center where the show was held. All the proceeds went towards a scholarship for Creative Arts Summer Arts Camp 2016. I walked as guest model representing my blog so my look had to be 'Bomb'. After trying on clothes all night Friday, I settled on this look. I got my amazing Dior inspired Perspex heel patent leather boots from a site called Public Desire. They are a UK based site that has amazing shoes are great prices. These stunners were reasonable considering Zara.com has some similar for a little over $100.I paid a cool $55 for these beauties with no hesitation. Check them out www.publicdesire.com they offer these in other colors as well. I was so excited to whip these out that I based my outfit around them. I went with neutral , yet warm tones. My wide leg tan woolen from Shein.com ($9) paired with a white body suit (Forever 21, $8) and my blush colored moto jacket (Clothes Mentor, $12) seemed to be the perfect street chic look, but I felt something was missing. I needed a to make a statement, so my grey faux fur stole was my go to accessory. Keeping with my warm palette, I grabbed my tan bucket bag from Zara ($30) to complete the ensemble.Jewelry was kept to a bare minimum ; a few rings and diamond stud earrings. I made sure to beat my face for the gawds because, well I like to stay beat lol. My fave Colourpop ultra matte lipstick in Limbo works so well with the tones and my brown skin it was a no brainer. While shooting for the blog ,before my runway debut, I decided to get some pics with the family and make it a family affair. My daughter , Renee (age 5) was more than eager to serve face(per the usual), but even more suprising was my step-son and potential model Titus (12). He is usually a shy guy just hanging out in the background, but he really shined this weekend. He has really come into his own and I am so proud to call his big head my son.lol.I'm thinking all those beautiful models he was waiting to see had something to do with his confidence boost.Considering how tall my hottie husband (yes, I'm swooning over my man!lol) is , 6'3'', its no surprise to see Titus towering over me at 5'8'' ;I'm 5'2'' by the way. As the old saying goes the family that slays together, stays together. The show started later that evening, and I got a small case of the jitters. Walking the runway is live and there are hundred of eyes on you, much different than posing in alleys and abandoned buildings. Once I hit that red carpet, it was a different story. I was out there slaying for my life yall! The oohs and ahhs , the applause, and the flashing lights were intoxicating. I ripped the runway with no remorse and got my first taste of limelight, and loved it. My look made quite and impression as well, especially my boots. One of my dear friends , Ty Respus came out to support me and hubby. Talk about great friends! Ty is also an up and coming celebrity blogger. So be on the lookout for #LetTYTellIT! One of model gal pals Diamond Mott was also walking and slaying. I was so happy to see her because its been a while and she has some amazing things going on. She will be walking in New York Fashion week and has some other things amazing things lined up as well. So proud of you! Networking was great .I met some great people and new connections. I'm a really outgoing person, but I find myself as a wallflower in social situations. Having known some familiar faces really helped me warm up. This is one of the reasons I always dress to impress.I'm not good at meeting new people, so I let my look do the icebreaking, and I take it from there.I know this post is lengthy, but I am just so excited about all the things I am learning and people I am meeting. Hopefully my experiences will encourage a few to step out of your comfort zone; you never know you just might like it! Toni Melvin Whitaker
It's finally cool enough in North Carolina to whip out the winter wares. This post is one of my first style inspiration/tributes to a fellow blogger. Jennifer Nweji is a fabulous NYC professional by day and blogger my night who has an impeccable eye for colors, patterns, textures, and all this chic. I first came across her on Fashionbombdaily.com and fell in love with her grace the way she slayed in her Stella McCartney dress (last pic). She takes street chic to a whole other level by cleverly mixing affordable and high-end eclectic pieces as well as staples and making fashion masterpieces. Her blog is http://jennesisofchic.blogspot.com/ and her IG is @jennesisofchic, check her out! Her bold yet classy looks are the inspiration behind today's look. White after Labor Day is seen as taboo, but rule no.1 of fashion is 'there are no rules'. Winter whites can vary from the snowiest of whites, to cream, Mother of Pearl, eggshell and so forth. This work appropriate looks even makes leather appropriate for work. I paired my faux leather off white trousers ($19.99 last year-Zara) with a Express cream cowl neck sweater ($2-thrift).My grey and silver pumps (Zara, $59.99 old) were the perfected muted color pump to compliment my look. To uplift things, I strapped my thin coral belt over my faux fur stole (Forever 21, $17.80) and grabbed my faux croc blue purse (Target, $8...on sale. old); the colors really popped against my winter white ensemble. My earrings are from Shein.com ($6) and I saw some similar on Jennifer and had to have some. They really pull a look together! My husband who is my photographer also designs jewelry. I added his Jasper gemstone beaded bracelet ($30- with U.S. shipping included) .Check out his page Jewelry Designs by Tim Ellis https://www.facebook.com/Jewelry-Designs-by-Tim-Ellis-1452005351766925/?fref=ts .I kept makeup fairly light and put on my Wet and Wild 'Purty Persimmon' lippy $2 .Don't sleep on the Wet and Wild ladies, they have great shades that look good on all skin tones, and if you don't like it you only lost a couple bucks.I really appreciate all the likes and looks and compliments! It means so much! You guys really keep me going, and I hope was able to inspire! |
