Who likes Twizzlers? Anybody? Well I sure don't.They are gross--bland even.I will have no parts of that.So why did I name this post Liquorice then? Well, because the dress looks like Twizzler.Doesn't it? Please say it does...
Hi Kids! *in my Keke Palmer voice. Thanks for stopping by today. The gag for today is *drum roll please JUST BE YOURSELF! Why you ask? Because everyone else is taken. It is so easy to get lost on the sauce in a world of social media and fashion overload, especially as a blogger. There is a thin line between inspiration and emulation which is very easy to get crossed and or blurred. As many of you may know, I love a great inspired look.I may see something on someone and it may spark my imagination and that is how is starts. I also don't mind acknowledging the origins of my inspirations either. In a world, where sometimes style is masked in a uniform look of Olive and nude colored bodycon, middle -parted hair ,flawless makeup, and coke-bottle body types it is refreshing to see so many resist the peer pressure and potential IG likes just to be true to their style. I admire that and that is why I pay homage.
TWell look at that, Monday is upon us once again! I hope you all liked my last post about my #DIYD Aquazurra inspired pom pom sandals.I tried to make it as easy as possible. Black is such a wonderful color which is why I did these in black. Black is just everything; elegance ,neutrality, formal, casual...like I said Everything!! I was so excited to put together a look for my latest creations. I opted for a fun yet sultry date night ensemble with somewhat regal influence. My #DIYD convertible wrap top was giving me all kinds of goddess inspiration , and the black well you know black is just everything. I styled it one shoulder style to bring some sexy back a al Justin Timberlake. The chiffon pleated culottes (Shein.com $8) incorporate both trend and a flowy silhouette, perfect for a night out. To play up on my golden brown skin, I went with gold accessories. I love flash tattoos (too chicken for a real one, don't judge me...or do...I'm notorious punk) so a stuck a few on my shoulder, arm and collarbone. My gold plated belt (Gojane, $7) was a nice touch to compliment my tribal inspired earrings (Romwe.com $3.80) and my gold cuff that I so savagely took from my mom's stash #iaintsorry. My weave patterned clutch (H&M, $5) which resembles a raffia palm in texture provided extra hints and chic yet summer vibes. This bag can easily transition from a day to night clutch as well. Long time no post huh? lol It's been a couple weeks and I was feeling a bit over worked, but I'm ready to get back at it.Beyonce's new athletic wear line with Top Shop, Ivy Park inspired the name for today's post. There is a park near my house in Harrells, NC so how perfect was that? My whole life I have been pretty body conscious, so I monitored what I ate as far as portion-wise and got in my 4 bottles of water a day. This year I made the decision to give up meat , bread, minimize processed food and develop a more plant-based ,non-GMO diet. I constantly felt sluggish and suffered from problem skin , which prompted my new eating adaptations. To help me jumpstart my new ways of eating, I started with a detox tea. Not only does it help rid the body of toxins and backup waste ,but also helps reduce cravings. Recently my daily meals usually consist of a fresh organic fruit smoothie for breakfast ,light lunch of hummus, avocado and sweet potato chips or a salad with apple cider vinegar as dressing. As soon as I get home around 5:30 I eat dinner.Eating an early dinner gives me a chance to burn off some of the calories I ate and reduce the chance of indigestion brought on by eating too late. Lately I have been in love with sautéed veggie tacos, which is what I usually have for dinner. While it is light and it can be surprisingly filing! It has been only four months and within the 1st month my skin was completely clear and I was no longer having monthly breakouts. I still have my lazy days but overall, I am much more energetic. My eating habits have changed, but I am not a food snob my any means. If I wants sweets or a slice of pizza, I eat it and don't feel guilty, unless the food doesn't agree with me. Unfortunately this happened last week when I forgot to pack my lunch and decided on Crab Rangoon. I don't know if it was because it was fried, or some other reason, but let's just say I learned my lesson. Once you detox your body of junk food, your body may reject it when you try to eat it again. This has happened to me more than once. It's important to listen to your body. Exercise alone won't change much if your diet consists of junk. Believe it or not, I just started working out a few weeks ago. It's not a daily thing or strenuous, however if it wasn't for my change in eating I would have no motivation. I usually don't discuss my weight, but I hopped on the scale the other day and to my surprise I was 110 lbs. haven't weighed that since 5th grade. I'm only 5'2'' so that is a reasonable healthy weight for me and as you can see I am far from skin and bones. Do everything in moderation and don't compare yourself or body to anyone else's. My personal fitness and body goals are simple. I just want to love what I see in the mirror. I'm not really concerned about looking extra curvy in clothes or being a thicky-thick girl because if you don't keep it tight that coke bottle can turn into a 2 liter real quick! By no means am I body shaming anyone, I just want to stress the importance of loving your body and not obsessing over someone else's. If you can't reach your body and fitness goals through diet and exercise, it's time to reevaluate. You are what you eat so eat well! Statement Hat-$1 Dollar Tree -iron on decals #DIYD V-neck-$3.80 Forever 21 Knit Flares -$7.99, on sale Forever 21.com Plaid Button down -$5 Brooks Brothers Shirt Factory Outlet Wedge Sneakers-Puma- $55 -can't remember the sneaker website but Saksofffifth.com had them as well Spring is fast approaching and let me tell you that "Immmm Ready!" *SpongeBob voice. If you live here in NC you will know the weather is severely unpredictable. You can have all four seasons in one week, really! So this post is in anticipation of my fave season, Spring. I really have never done a pink lip, but I am quite surprised that this Wet N Wild 'Don't Blink Pink' complimented me so well.It can be so hard to find the right pink for brown skin, but I found a winner.Considering the lipstick was only $3 at my local CVS, it was really a no brainer.I was recently inspired by the Aquazurra 'pon pon' ankle tie sandals so I made my own #DIYD (do it ya damn self) version. I have a video coming soon , but I am still editing for now. They were really easy to make and inexpensive as well. These sandals are perfect for more many reasons, not only is 'pom pom' everything trending , but its a great way to revamp old worn old basic sandals. Mine were so beat down and worn I had pretty much given up on them. Because colors in both nature and fashion get more vibrant in Spring, these shoes and lipstick are perfect! My orange clutch from GoJane.com ($8) seemed to be the most fitting accessory as I gear up for brighter, warmer and longer days. I love a good statement clutch. A good one can be an eye grabber and a great conversation piece . I let all my accessories (shoes, bag and lips) do all the shining and let my outfit take a back seat. I kept my look simple and fun. My oversized fuzzy sweater (H&M, 12) was paired with one of my fave pair of jeans. The jeans are thrifted Levi's that I deconstructed myself. The style of the jeans are like mom jeans, but because I revamped them I consider them "step mom" jeans (insert roaring laughter here). Yo yo yo!!! Its Friday again and I'm back on the beat. You like my dress? It took 4 mins to make with no sewing involved! You remember my wrap top? Well, I bought 2 yards of the jersey mocha fabric and used the 1/2 yard for the two strips needed the make the top and the 1 and 1/2 yard I had left. I just pinned it at the waist with a few safety pins to secure it, and let the bottom hang. You can pretty much wrap and pin it how you like, and boom just like that you have a sexy formal dress. You can also pin the skirt how you like and thin pin the 2 strips of fabric to the top of the skirt (as noted in previous post), instead of having a top and skirt as separates. I was inspired by the wonderful bridesmaid dress I wore in my bestie Shalanda's wedding. The dresses were a dusty rose , which was the perfect choice for a summer wedding.(Kudos friend! You did that gir!!).Summer weddings are coming to a close and fall/winter weddings are in the near future. For the bride on a budget, my wrap dress version is a simple, inexpensive option for a bridesmaid dress. Mocha is also trending as a fall fave hue, so not only will your wedding party be dress to the nines on a dime, but also on trend .If you want to snazz it up, throw on a leather jacket and pumps and ride through the six with your woes or bae, I hope the pictures do its justice because it came out great and I only spent $4 in fabric. I also include some fly shots of the bridal brigade stunting in our convertible top dresses .I hope my instructions were clear. If not , please let me know and I hope you enjoy :) P.S. for my ladies with a little more up top, you can either purchase extra fabric to make a tube top to go underneath or buy one of the same color. It will help hold up the girls, keep in the tummy, and smooth out unwanted back rolls. So I was minding my business and browsing online like I always do and I saw this Multi-way body suit. I was totally gonna buy it , but my account was like, 'Nah kid'. I begin to vent my frustrations to one of my fashionista friends who reassured and comforted me by telling me I had too many clothes already (she is right..I guess *eye roll) Then it hit me, why pay for it when you can DO IT YA DAMN SELF?!!! and boom there you have it! I made this top in a bout 3 mins flat! Perfect for date night, out with the girls, a formal occasions, or pare it down with some jeans. BTW it only took $3 to make. Here is what you need: 6-10 medium size safety pins 1/2 to 1 yd Jersey fabric (make sure the width is 2 yards) (from local craft store-Hobby Lobby, Walmart, Joanns, Michaels)..I got black and mocha Pair of thin or seamless panties or briefs the same color of fabric (optional) I got the jersey (stretchy ) fabric from Walmart. It was very wide; 2 yards wide (72 in) so I 1/2 yard (18 in) is all I needed to purchase. The fabric was only $1.94 a yard. Make sure its wide because the width of fabric on the bolt will be the length for when you cut it for the 2 long pieces for the top. If you want to ensure precise cutting(to avoid raggedy edges like mine), you can ask the associate to cut that 1/2 yard the long way into 2 , 9inch wide 72in long pieces of fabric. You can either pin the fabric to the front of a pair of mid-rise briefs or even to the front of a pair of pant or skirt. Make sure the under garments aren't too high or they could show. Just start pinning each piece using the side seam of briefs as one end and the middle of the front of the briefs as the other. Repeat and you are done. If you want to make it official, just sew the fabric to the briefs using the same guidelines. The pic below shows how it will look from the inside.Pins should not show once worn. Also if your edges are a lil rough its ok, just fold it under, the jersey fabric holds well.I hope you all really like this post! I really loved making this and just wanted to share the idea to save you all a few coins. Please comment and I would love to see how you do it ya damn self!Enjoy;) |
