It's not Thursday, but I am gonna throw it back like it's 99 and Juvenille and Cash Money is on the track. Well, I am actually throwing it back further than that. My mom is obsessed with Burgundy and she is such a fierce uppity southern lady, so this look is all inspired by her. I am also sharing a bit about myself. I know it sounds weird but I am interviewing myself today. I am learning how important it is to share. As long as I can remember my mom always raised all of us kids and emphasized the importance of appearance. Of all the things she taught me this lesson has stuck with me the most. Image can be both everything and nothing. First impressions are lasting impressions, and one thing people remember is how you look. We didn't have a lot of money but we always looked good. Going thrifting and to yard sales were not looked down on in my house. Spotting quality at first glance in a pile of junk became a skill in my house as we scoured flea markets for bargains and vintage wear."Everything cheap is not good!", my mom's thrifting slogan.Because my mom is obsessed with Burgundy, one her fave designers was Etienne Aigner. Anyone who knows vintage Aigner knows how fly their pieces are. There is no one who gave life to the color burgundy like them. A few months ago, on one of my lunch break thrifting trips, I noticed a burgundy trenchcoat. Upon further inspection, I not only found out it was Aigner but it was also reversible(and $10). Girl, I could not wait to call my mama and make her jealous (I'm petty and I learned it from her.She is a Capricorn) .If you can't stop obsessing over this coat, try your luck for this vintage find here. Q: How did you get started blogging? A:I have always loved fashion and dressing up. My co-workers would say things like I should start a blog. I was like 'what the hell is a blog?!'.So I started studying fashion bloggers and building my wardrobe. Then my BFF since 7th grade Lashika (the most organized person in the world) started sending me info how to create my own website. Her believing in me means more to me than she will ever know. Q:Where did Caribbean Cowgirl come from? A: I wanted a name that would honor and represent my paternal Jamaican heritage(Caribbean) and my maternal southern culture (Cowgirl). The two parts of me really influence my style in such a tremendous way. My mom is so stylish and my dad used to be a tailor in Jamaica (along with a million other jobs) so they created all of this. Q: Who are your fashion icons? A:First and foremost my mom and my sister. There are the epitome and southern classy and swaggy and I owe all of this to them.Other than that, my fave is definitely June Ambrose.I love her eccentricity and her chameleon style calling card.I also love Solange , of course. Q:Sources of Inspiration? A:I have so many. When it comes to black women in business I would say primarily Claire Sulmers Editor and founder of Fashion Bomb Daily. She was the first fierce fashion go-getter and blogger I had ever experienced. She is like a mentor to me.Logan, the creator behind the line Lord Logan is my mentor and I am truly blessed to have crossed her path. From taking me under her wing, believing in me, and guiding me through the exciting under belly of fashion I owe her so much.Lastly,I would say Terri Royal of Incantare Boutique.Yoooo, she is incredibly amazing in every since of the word. She runs a successful online boutique while serving our country in the U.S. Army.I love how she keeps me on my toes. She is always thinking and challenging herself in the ever growing and changing world of fashion and marketing. Not to mention she is drop dead gorgeous! I just love how incredibly talented black women are despite the odds.Black girls rock! Q:Describe your style A: I really can't. Is that bad? lo It just is .It really depends on my pops into my head to wear or whatever influences me on a given day. I am drawn to the more eccentric looks like London and New York street style. If ManRepeller and Fashionbombdaily had a fashion baby, it would probably be style (most accurate description) lol.
