Bonjour mon peeps!! lol Excuse my Franglish , but I am just trying to lively up your day with a bit of French inspiration! I have always loved many aspects of French culture. I studied French in both high school and college and my middle name is Renee (which I casually go by when I refer to myself in French (not First) person..lol) So being enamored with the romance and street style of the fashion capital, Paris, I am here to serve up le Fashion du jour. Let me just tell you how in love I am with this boater hat (H&M, $7)!! I just love it! I feel like a new age Madeline (all my 80's babies should get the reference). It can take a look to a feminine ,chic, and somewhat dapper. Wide leg pants that are somewhat cropped really can give a look a much more masculine yet structural look. I chose to pair my black wide leggers (Shein.com $9) with a with button down dress (Brook Brothers factory outlet $19.99).The length really gave me twist on the typical black and white ensemble. In French fashion, I added a feminine bow (thrift , $3) to my button down. Accessory layering is also becoming one of my newest hobbies. By stacking my pearl choker with my bowtie I am maximizing tow minimalist pieces without looking gaudy. However it wasn't enough. As you all may know by now , I live for a standout look. So I grabbed a silk color block Bill Blass scarf (thrift, $3) and folded in diagonally and tied it in the back and boom!! The bright primary colors of my scarf seemed to take my look from 'oh' to 'ooh la la!!' I needed a shoe to accentuate my skinny ankles, but not take away from my look .My Just Fab (14.99) zip-up pumps appeared to do the trick. My mini bag is a oldie but goodie from Zara.com ($10), and of course I added a little pom pom just for the sake of fashion. I hope you all really enjoy this look as much as I did putting it together and shooting it.

oKAYYYYY ladies now let's get in formation! The newest black girl anthem heard 'round the world thanks to the one and only Beyoncé. Not only does she sing about how proud she is of her heritage , but her visuals were like BOOM, IN YA FACE SOUTHERN GRACE!! Since the drop of Formation, the internet has had its share of Yonce inspired everything.I can say she definitely inspired today's post, but the real credit I owe to the two original style inflencers in my life---my mom and my sister. My mom has always been the epitome of snazzy classic dressing for me. Growing up in North Carolina, I lived in a small town called Lumberton. There is no claim to fame , well except for the Native Americans known as the Lumbee Indians. If you go to Wal-Mart, which you don't have much of a choice, be prepared to see hair in big brightly colored rollers and two-toned painted cars with rims and street names on the back windshield. lol. It's a pretty causal town, but my mom always dressed to impressed. She believed in shape ware, slips, hosiery, gloves, shoe repair, 'dry clean only', straw hats, scarves pinned to a blazer with a brooch; a true believer in fashion. She always had a love of A-line skirts, layers, and her true love--Burgundy. No one,I mean no one wears it like her--except me .lol.Sometimes on Friday nights, after the TGIF lineup (#throwback) , she would just try on clothes for hours. This has now become my weekly ritual.Cranking up the music and letting my creativity flow organically through a montage of pulling on and off clothes until I find my happy place is my true happy place. My mom and dad raised 5 kids on a budget, but we ALWAYS looked good.I had no problem as a kid, waking up early Saturday morning and discovering great deals and even some vintage pieces on someone's lawn. In addition to turning secondhand looks into vintage visions, she was also a queen of DIY before it was even a thing. She would get that glue gun or needle and thread and add extra 'zazz to piece. So when they say 'girl where you get dat 'zazz from?'* in my Juvenille Cash Money voice , I proudly say I get it from my mama!! My sister--my 1st best enemy/best friend/Golden Girl/partner-in-crime my everything!! Anyone that know me knows much I loooooooove my sister. She is ten years older than me , so growing up I was like Rudy Huxtable and she was Denise. Everything she did and wore oozed cool. From the long black glue on nails on the 90's to them red bad ass Durango boots you let me wear in the 7th grade, and that famous vintage Ralph Lauren blazer with suede elbow patches. You got me my first cell phone, 2-way pager, and 1st designer bag (a super cool DKNY backpack)--she made sure I was cool. Toot, (my sis' nickname) you will never know how much you mean to me!! *insert tears Straw boater hat (H&M-$7 on sale) Earrings (Romwe.com $4) Wool overcoat-thrift ($6) Turtleneck-Forever 21 -old Pleated A-line skirt (shein.com, $9) Tights-Steve Madden-(Roses $3) Perspex heel boots (PublicDesire.com, $52) Leather gloves (thrift, $1) Bag-Michael Kors Lipstick (Colourpop-LAX, $6) Hello and happy Friday! I know it's been a while since I have posted...working on a few things. I promise to get back in the groove. To make up for it, I am serving a few offerings on how I style the fringe skirt. From crop tops,to blazers mixed with sneakers or mules I have compiled my own favorite combos for fringe that incorporate both knee-length and midi-length.I will also be posting where to buy as well.Stay tuned....and enjoy :) |
